COMING OF ANTICHRIST—PART 14: 144,000 Jews Sealed

While Antichrist rages in his quest to carry out his Final Solution, God isn’t standing idly by. The two witnesses, as we have seen, have preached and warned of the necessity to reject the satanic regime and its every facet. Many will doubtless come to saving repentance after watching these dead men come to life and be called into Heaven.

This is especially true of many of the Jews, who see that dazzling demonstration of God’s awesome power. And it is the chosen people who have the Lord’s most rapt attention during this portion of the Tribulation, which has turned into the time of Jacob’s trouble (Jeremiah 30:7). The second half of the Tribulation will bring a period of God drawing a remnant of the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob into His heavenly family. He will do this to bring about flesh-and-blood offspring of those progenitors in order to move them into the millennial earth. The Millennium will be the thousand years of earth’s history when Jesus Christ will reign as King of all kings. He was the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world, and, following the Tribulation, He will sit on the throne of David to rule the entire earth.

God loves all of mankind, especially the Jews, whom, because of their unbelief, He has set aside for the moment. Just as Christians are said to be the Bride of Christ, Israel is considered the wife of Jehovah. God likens them to being an unfaithful wife; they’ve chosen another to join and to love in their wickedness and sinfulness.

God doesn’t refer to the Jews as “my people” in their present condition as wayward and rebellious. But He will one day again call them “my people,” when He calls out that remnant from amongst all the rebels of the Tribulation era and reestablishes one-third of the Jews as His people—His “chosen people,” to be sure. They will inherit the millennial kingdom on earth. Israel will then be the apex nation of all history.

So the Lord will shake the entire planet mightily during the time of the Apocalypse—the Tribulation—to bring out this group from among those who are rebellious toward Him. His great, cataclysmic judgments will rock the entire universe, and He will do all necessary to see this calling-out of His people is done.

While the twenty-one judgments we’ve looked at are taking place, God will bring 144,000 men from among the twelve tribes of Israel to perform evangelistic feats the likes of which have never been performed on earth. They will be the most powerful preachers ever to make an impact on earth’s peoples. God’s Word about these Jewish evangelists is stunning. Their work in bringing the salvation message will be a supernatural act of first order:

And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.

After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. (Revelation 7:2–10)

These men will be specifically elected and anointed for ministering during the evilest time of human history. They’ll be sealed by the very Spirit of God so that no harm can come to them. Verses 9 and 10, we believe, testify that they accomplish their mission. It tells of the millions who will become believers as a result of their ministry. The following passage tells of their great welcome into Heaven when their mission is completed:

And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.

And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth.

These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God. (Revelation 14:1–5)

Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost further elucidates the exploits and rewards of the 144,000-member evangelistic force and the troubled time of their ministry.

When the nation Israel is brought back into her land after the rapture by the covenant enacted by the head of the Revived Roman Empire (Dan. 9:27) Israel is still in unbelief. God, however, is very definitely dealing with that nation to bring it to salvation. The whole seventieth week of Daniel is a period of preparation for the coming of the King. The gospel of the kingdom, which necessitates repentance, is being preached. There is a reception of this message. God uses many different means to bring “all Israel” to salvation during the seventieth week. The Word of God is available and may be used so that those Jews who are hungering and thirsting may search that Word for a knowledge of Christ. The Holy Spirit, while not indwelling a temple as He did in this age, is nevertheless operative and will do a work of convicting and enlightening. Signs will be given to point Israel to a knowledge of Jehovah. Such a sign is the destruction of the king of the north (Ezek. 39:21–29). There will be the ministry of the 144,000 sealed of Israel (Rev. 7) and the ministry of the two witnesses (Rev. 11), all with the intent of bringing the nation to repentance and salvation. The outpouring of the wrath of God is seen to be for the purpose of bringing men to repentance (Rev. 16:9–10). While the majority will not repent, some may be turned to Jehovah by these signs.

It would be concluded, then, that the nation, unsaved at the beginning of the tribulation, receives a multitude of witnesses of various kinds so that the individuals are experiencing salvation through the period and the nation will be saved finally at the second advent (Rom. 11:26–27). The fact that the brethren, referred to in Revelation 12:10–11, overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony indicates that many will be saved during the tribulation period.…

In chapter seven the 144,000 are sealed by God, set apart to a special ministry, before the great tribulation begins. They seem to be sealed at the very outset of the tribulation period. In all probability the multitude of Gentiles, described in the passage that follows (Rev. 7:9–17), has come to a knowledge of salvation through the ministry of this group. In chapter fourteen the same group is pictured at the termination of the tribulation, when the kingdom is established. The returning King is on Mt. Zion, as was predicted of Him (Zech 14:4). At His return the faithful witnesses gather unto Him, having been redeemed (Rev. 14:4) and having faithfully witnessed in the midst of apostasy (Rev. 14:4–5). They are called “the first-fruits unto God and to the Lamb” (Rev. 14:4), that is, they are the first of the harvest of the tribulation period that will come into the millennium to populate the millennial earth. As the judgments are about to be poured out upon Babylon (Rev. 14:8), upon the Beast (Rev. 14:9–12), upon the Gentiles (Rev. 14:14–17), and upon unbelieving Israel (Rev. 14:18–20), these 144,000 are viewed as being preserved through all that the earth experiences so that they may be the firstfruits of that period. Stevens well summarizes:

“It seems both natural and reasonable to find in this company of one hundred and forty-four thousand—now come off more than conquerors and standing, translated and glorified…the company of the same number introduced in chapter 7, a selected company from all the tribes of Israel, sealed in their foreheads with the ‘seal of the living God’ and as His ‘servants.’ It was as special standard-bearers of the faith beginning with the era of the seventh seal that these Israelites were seen to be commissioned. Now, in the fourteenth chapter, this company, it would seem, is presented again in the enjoyment of the reward and commendations which will be theirs after their course has been finished. It is noteworthy that not one of the number is seen to have failed.”

…The destiny of the remnant. Speaking of those brought to the Lord through the ministry of the 144,000 in Revelation 7:15–16, John writes:

“Therefore are they before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.

“They shall hunger no more neither thirst any more neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.

“For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.”

They are seen “before the throne” (Rev 14:3). Thus the destiny of this remnant is the kingdom over which Christ will rule from the “throne of David.” These promises are not heavenly, but earthly, and will be fulfilled in the millennium.[i]

Jonathan Cahn On “The Return Of These Gods”

Comparison to today’s world of evangelism with that future period when the pressures are horrific on everyone on earth to give in to Antichrist’s brutal regime just to survive are unfair to make. It is thought by some that there will be in this present, pre-Tribulation era another “Great Awakening,” a great revival of the church with massive numbers of lost souls coming to Christ for salvation. We prayerfully hope so, but find no place in God’s Word where that is promised this side of Rapture. All indicators are, however, that a vast number of souls will come to salvation as a result of these Jewish men and their fervor to bring souls to Christ. Dr. David Jeremiah, one of America’s best known pastors and Christian broadcasters, writes the following about the 144,000 men of the House of Israel:

The Bible says in Joel chapter 2 that “it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days” (Joel 2:28–29).

These 144,000 witnesses are selected from the twelve tribes of Israel. They are sealed on their foreheads and they are servants of the living God. And the Bible says they are also separated to God—that means they have a special calling from the Lord. Revelation 14:4 says, “these are the ones who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins.”

Now a lot of people have tried to spiritualize that and talk about the fact that they had not committed spiritual adultery, but that’s reading too much into the text. I believe these men will be celibates who just run around the earth preaching the Gospel. And frankly, when you read about what goes on in the Tribulation, there won’t be any time for these men to have families. They’ll be on a journey and on a mission, and it will be a full-time task. When we understand the pressures of the Tribulation period, it’s easy to comprehend why these preachers would have a difficult married life.

The 144,000 Are Spared from Judgment

They are also spared from the coming judgment. Notice it says, “do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads” (Revelation 7:3). In other words, these men will not be able to be taken out. There will certainly be an anger against them because of their preaching. But the Bible says no one is going to be able to touch them because Almighty God is going to have His arms wrapped around them.

You know it’s an interesting thing that even today we can practice that, can we not? I’m going to tell you a little secret. When I first started to travel as a young pastor, my kids were young. I used to get on airplanes flying out of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and have a little pang of fear that would come into my heart. Now I wasn’t afraid to die—I wasn’t anxious to die, but I wasn’t afraid to. But I had a great fear for my kids, for my wife, and my little children. And one day an older pastor came to me and gave me this little saying, and I wrote it in my Bible. Here’s what it says, “God’s man, in the center of God’s will, is immortal until God is done with him.”[ii]

The man of sin, the most brutal dictator to ever exist, will no doubt be desperate to somehow stop these men of the Jewish race who are supernaturally endowed for service. As Dr. Jeremiah says, he will have no success. They, as we have seen, are “sealed” and can’t be touched by Satan’s man or his forces.

They’ll apparently be able to move about instantaneously, much like Philip was removed far away from the Ethiopian eunuch once he had converted him and baptized him. These evangelists will be able to mesmerize with the powerful way they tell of the love of God and the salvation He wants for them. It will be like all of Billy Graham’s crusades rolled up into one when they speak to the lost souls of the Tribulation era.

Here, we will break into all of the gloominess of this horrendous time with a bit of levity. We remember the stories of our two friends, Dr. David Reagan of Lamb and Lion Ministries and Christ in Prophecy Television program, and our dear brother, Zola Levitt, now in Heaven where he longed to be.

Dave Reagan tells the story about how he wanted to know Zola’s thoughts on the 144,000 Jewish evangelists of the time of the Tribulation. Zola, a Messianic Jew with a powerful ministry and television program for many years—Zola Levitt Presents—as always, was glad to answer Dave’s question. The following is Dave’s account of that back and forth.

I once called Zola Levitt and asked his opinion on this matter. Zola is a Messianic Jew who has a Bible prophecy ministry. When I asked if he believed that the 144,000 Jews of Revelation 7 would serve as evangelists trying to convert the world to Jesus, he said, “Of course! Why do you think the Lord has given us the kind of personality that we have?”

I wasn’t about to touch that question with a ten-foot pole, so I played dumb. “What are you talking about?” I asked.

“Haven’t you ever noticed,” asked Zola, “that Jews are very pushy people?”

“Well yes,” I responded, “now that you mention it, I must say that I have.”

“Well,” said Zola, “God has given us that kind of personality so that we can be the world’s greatest salesmen. And one day, during the Tribulation, 144,000 believing Jews are going to use those skills to convert a great host of Gentiles to Jesus. We are going to push people up against the wall and hold them by the throat until they say, ‘Jesus!’ Before the Tribulation is over, we are going to convert more people to Jesus than you Gentiles have done in the past 2,000 years.”

All I could say was, “I hope you are right.”[iii]

Zola, a long time and dear friend, is very much missed, as is his zeal for reaching out with God’s Word to evangelize the world. If the 144,000 have the kind of infectious zeal exhibited by Zola Levitt, we can begin to understand why the Tribulation will be probably the greatest time of salvation of souls in human history.
