In biblical times, both in the Old and New Testaments, society was patriarchal. Men were favored and seen as the leaders of society. In contrast, women were viewed as inferior to men and did not have many rights or privileges. Despite these negative views of them in the patriarchal society, God viewed women as equal to men.
