In 2010, a study was published in the journal Nature that listed 34 potential hybrid species that could become prevalent in the Arctic. This is because sea ice is rapidly melting with global warming, and species that were once isolated are now being forced to move to new areas to hunt. As a result, they are coming across each other and mating, forming new hybrids that could eventually eject the original species out the gene pool completely.
