When will Jesus return? That’s a question we have contemplated for at least 1,990 years. We know from Revelation 20 that He will rule on the earth for 1,000 years, a millennium. But when should we expect this millennium? Early church fathers like Barnabus wrote of their belief that the seven-year cycle of six working days or years plus a sabbath applies to millennia as well. Jesus’ reign over the earth will come during the 7th, or sabbath, millennium. Jesus first came in the flesh before the start of the fifth millennium. Forty-some years later, when the fifth millennium officially started, the time of Torah and sin sacrifices had ended. Could He return within the same timeframe 2,000 years later, before the start of the seventh millennium? When would that be? Exactly 2,000 years ago, Jesus was walking on the earth. While there is some debate over the start of Jesus’ ministry, most researchers place it at either 26 AD or 29 AD. His death approximately 3 1/2 years later would have been in either 29/30 AD or 32/33 AD.
